Flexible Short-Term Insurance Options

Our temporary insurance is tailored for drivers needing coverage on a flexible, short-term basis. Common scenarios where our policies can provide support include:

  • Shared Travel: Ideal for individuals sharing long trips and covering shared driving needs.
  • Borrowing a Vehicle: Secure coverage when borrowing a friend or family member’s car.
  • University Breaks: Coverage for students driving a parent’s car while home from university.
  • Vehicle in Repair: For those needing an alternative vehicle while their own is being serviced.
  • Collecting a New Car: Temporary insurance for picking up a new car before arranging long-term coverage.
  • Moving House: Short-term coverage for moving-related vehicles, such as rental vans.
  • Impound Retrieval: Insurance for retrieving an impounded car.
  • Learner Driver Insurance: Temporary coverage options for those learning to drive.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants for short-term insurance must meet the following criteria:

  1. Age: Between 17 and 78 years.
  2. Licence Type: Holds a valid UK, EU, or UK provisional licence.
  3. Residency: Must have resided in the UK continuously for the last 12 months, or be a returning UK expatriate.
  4. Driving Record:
    • No more than 7 licence penalty points in the last 3 years.
    • No disqualifications within the past 2 years.
    • Maximum of 2 fault claims in the past 3 years.
  5. Criminal Record: Must have no criminal convictions or ongoing ASBO/CBO.
  6. Insurance History: No previously voided policies.
  7. Vehicle Requirements:
    • Valued at a minimum of £1,500 (with claim limits up to £65,000, depending on the insurer).
    • Must have a valid MOT and be roadworthy.
    • Should be taxed unless tax is being arranged immediately after purchase.
  8. Insurer-Specific Rules: Applicants must review each insurer’s detailed requirements found in their Proposer’s Declaration.

Exclusions

Our temporary insurance does not cover:

  • Modified Vehicles: Only modifications for disabled access are permitted.
  • Left-Hand Drive Vehicles: Except left-hand drive motorhomes, which are eligible.
  • Large Vehicles: Excludes coverage for vehicles with 8 or more seats and certain commercial models.
  • Rented or Loaned Vehicles: This includes rentals, credit hire, and accident management vehicles.
  • Hire and Reward: Does not cover vehicles used for paid goods transport (with limited exceptions for couriers).
  • Racing or Commercial Use: Excludes racing, speed tests, or commercial and motor trade purposes.
  • High-Risk Goods or Locations: No coverage for transporting hazardous materials or driving to risky locations.
  • SORN Vehicles: Vehicles marked as Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) are not eligible.
  • International Licences: Only UK, EU, or UK provisional licences are accepted.
